Jane Austen on Google Home Page

Does this depict Emma or Pride and Prejudice?

Today marks Jane Austen’s 235th Birthday. To commemorate this Google have put a Jane Austen doodle on their home page. A key question being asked is whether the doodle represents a scene from Pride and Prejudice or Emma. If it is Emma we have a local connection in Kent where the BBC TV production of the story was filmed close by in Chilham and screened in 2009.

The doodle is shown on both Google.co.uk and Google.com. This just shows the current stature of what was once considered quite an obscure author. Not ignoring the timeless appeal of romantice fiction, I suspect the recent popularity of Jane Austen is possibly due to immaculate English and good manners displayed by most of her characters. Well done Google!
